Gimt: A tool for ontology and goal modeling in BDI multi-agent design

Designing and developing BDI multi-agent systems would be facilitated by rising up the level of abstraction to use and by a methodological approach for managing it. To this aim it is common the integration of goal oriented analysis techniques with the design and implementation phases. In this fashion, our experience is that the use of an ontology in the early stages of the process is a great support for subsequent phases: goal modeling, agent design and implementation. L’articolo descrive il rapporto tra il design e un prodotto dell’agroalimentare siciliano, il ficodindia di Roccapalumba, per uno sviluppo economico e territoriale nel rispetto dell’ambiente. A tal fine il ficodindia è considerato risorsa in grado di avviare delle innovazioni, come la valorizzazione degli scarti e la relazione tra gli attori locali. Il testo esplora il tema del design per lo sviluppo locale, descrivendo un percorso di ricerca sul campo con l’esempio dello studio di un territorio siciliano. Lo studio, elaborato insieme con gli attori dello sviluppo territoriale (amministratori, Camera di Commercio, associazioni e imprenditori) della provincia di Ragusa, ha esplorato il rapporto tra il design e le risorse materiali e immateriali del territorio siciliano con l’obiettivo di sviluppare nuovi processi di produzione coerenti con il concetto di sostenibilità ambientale, per innovare e consentire una produzione sostenibile e costituire la base per un design “Made in Sicily”.

Incremental Accumulation of Information Systems Design Theory

This paper proposes an organizing device for accumulation of information systems (IS) design theory components within a study but also across research studies. The proposed framework enables actors to understand the relationship over time between search spaces of information systems design science theory (ISDT) development by one and the same or different actors. The proposition rests on the notion that ISDT development is an iterative and incremental process that often happens across different research studies. Finally, we argue that with the proposed framework, ISDT knowledge is more easily transferred and combined with the search processes.

Discrete Mathematics in Lower School Grades? Situation and Possibilities in Italy

This paper presents an overview of the Italian situation in teaching discrete mathematics in primary and middle school, taking into account the national teaching guidelines and their connection with the subject. We describe research conducted with about 150 teachers, interviewed in a preliminary questionnaire. The data collected shows, for all teaching grades, interest in having more discrete mathematics in the school curriculum even if there are some difficulties in teaching it and in inserting it in the usual mathematical activities at school, mostly related to teachers’ knowledge and self-confidence about the subject.
